My Man is gonna be on TV!

TVCOGECO new series eating local food

TVCOGECO is producing an exciting new television program exploring the growing consciousness towards eating local food. Many people are becoming more aware of where their food comes from, what it’s made of and how their food dollars affect their community.

This television program profiles interesting and passionate ‘locavores’ in and around Kingston, Belleville and Brockville: Families, individuals and businesses challenging themselves to eat locally, chefs scouring the countryside to keep their menus enticing, engaged couples incorporating the 100 mile challenge into their wedding banquet.

We’ll be following them around as they source food and learn about where there food comes from. They’ll meet with local farmers and growers to see what they have to offer their community. Our participants will be getting their hands dirty as they help producers out with tasks and chores and compete in local food based challenges.

One of the stories we’re following involves the five office staff at Engine Communications in Belleville, who are challenging themselves as a group to eat 100% local for 7 days. We’ll be documenting the highlights of their experience plus they’ll be blogging about it. Highlights of the 7 days include a local food cook-off a Milford Bistro, wine-making challenges at Black Prince Winery and a 100% local ingredients potluck put on by office staff.

The program will air regionally on TVCOGECO in early 2010.

Cheryl has been giving us the updates at the church office. This is a very neat idea.

We frequently visit The County. What I love is all the local foods that are featured in the menus. We went on one of our tours with The Crowders during the Maple Fest.... it was Sweet!
